Songs for Singing Groups and Choirs
This collection of songs is created for people living with dementia who enjoy singing in a choir or singing group, or with family, friends or carers.
The collection includes a new song ‘I Am The Song’ written by singer/songwriter Boo Hewerdine and recorded with award-winning vocalist Hannah Rarity, percussionist/drummer Iain Sandilands and members of Let’s Sing who are part of our dementia inclusive singing network.
It also includes Rise Up and Travel These Ways written by songwriter Karine Polwart and two medleys of songs: Sing me a Song by Stephen Deazley and Bryan Marshall; and We Shall Overcome adapted and arranged by Stephen Deazley and Penny Stone.
Some of the songs in this collection were recorded during the pandemic to be sung at home and include more guidance than others. So, with each song and medley listed below you will find:
- Song words
- Notated music for singers and accompanists
- Film and audio recordings for you to watch, listen and sing along with
- For our songs commissioned during the pandemic, there are also films of song leaders guiding you through the songs
We hope you enjoy our new song ‘I Am The Song’ and that this collection of songs will inspire you to have a go, have fun, and keep singing!
All our songs are licensed under a Creative Commons Licence. This means that you are welcome to share and adapt the songs, as long as you always give appropriate credit (by mentioning the copyright holders listed on each page and Luminate) and you don’t make any money from it.
