About

Many of the choir members have lost confidence in singing and find this choir a safe space to enjoy group singing. There are also quite a few members who are trying to strengthen their voice. We try to sing melodies that are either well known or are easy to pick up and they are all taught by ear. Some songs are split into parts to create harmony. We have a data projector with large print lyrics displayed on a screen which most people seem to like. Lyrics are not usually supplied for warm up vocal songs or rounds.
Typical sessions include some relaxation, gentle physical warm ups (massage and stretching, nothing difficult and participants are encouraged only to do what is comfortable for them), breathing exercises to encourage support and relaxation, fun vocal warm ups like rounds, tongue twisters and a bit of brain gym; then a mix of well known songs from around the 1950s onwards to the present day (pop, folk, world). We also sing a few sea shanties and love all of the songs in the resource section of the Luminate Scotland website (currently learning I am the Song).
We are a hybrid choir meaning that people can join from anywhere from their homes. We have a few regular members who use this when they are not able to get out and about due to mobility or illness and sometimes just down to the lovely Scottish weather! If people wish to join online they can phone or email the hospice (either anna.ludwig@kilbrydehospice.org.uk or 01355 202020).
