About

The Shalder Shanty Singers were set up in January 2022 and are currently singing in Lerwick every Friday. Our motto is: “Growl you may but go you must!” So no singing ability is needed!

Sea Shanties, with a familiar tune and a catchy chorus, are easy to learn and fun to sing! We sing a variety of shanties from saucy to sad and we travel with our songs of the sea from South Australia and around Cape Horn to California back to Shetland and on to Canada.

We are a ‘lightsome’ dementia inclusive singing group who meet for soup at 13.30 and sing from 14.00 followed by a cuppa and some fancies at 14.45. We often share a poem or a story of a nautical nature, there’s often a fine story behind a shanty and we’d love to hear your stories and poems too! We also have a small band so if you don’t want to sing but would like to play please come along. If you love to sing and want to share a song in a solo slot then you would be very welcome!
